St Valentine?

About St Valentine ,there are little difference in stories about who he was .

One of the most famous  story claimed he was a priest from Rome in the 3rd century AD.
And back then in Rome, Emperor Claudius II banned marriages, therefore man and women remained singles. He laid this rule in order to keep the military Men stronger believing that they will go weaker if married.

Nevertheless, St Valentine  went ahead to secretly marry his lover. Eventually,  Imprisoned and sentenced to death for marrying.

Apparently, while St. Valentine was still in prison, he  fell in love with the jailer’s daughter.  On the day of his execution , February 14th, decided to send his lover , a romantic love letter as farewell. He ended the letter with  ‘from your Valentine’

 

In 496, Pope Gelasius I, included Valentine name in a book called ” Martyrologium Hieronynianum” .  For those who die for an act that is only  known and understood well by God.”    Therefore the first feast of St. Valentine was established .

Till today , St Valentine’s skull resides in the Chiesa di Santa Maria in Cosmedin, on Rome’s Piazza Bocca della Verità.
