Transgender School Opened in India
India opens first transgender school named Sahaj international . Established in Kerala, which is the first Indian state to adopt a transgender policy against discrimination. According to the News, Kerala has about 25,000 transgenders, and 57% Dropped out of school.
According to BBC, the head of the school, a Transgender activist Vijayraja Mallika. Said : “The school aims at making transgenders eligible for taking decent jobs and living a dignified life.””We have admitted six candidates so far, all male-to-female persons, from 14 applicants. Of the 10 seats, we have reserved one for female-to-male and one for the disabled.”Many transgender people were got denied job, rejected by families, and even forced into sex work, begging” because of stigmatization.
Therefore, they claimed it is to support those who dropped out of school due to societal condemnation . More so, the teachers are also Transgender as well. Said to have created job opportunity for those jobless due to their sexuality.
