Another Bridgerton sibling is about to fall in love…and, as it turns out, we already know their initials.

Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) finally received their happy ending in Bridgerton’s fourth season, and fans can rest easy knowing there’s still much more to come. Netflix has officially renewed the hit Regency drama for seasons 5 and 6, ensuring that more of the Bridgerton siblings and their suitors will take center stage in the years ahead. But who will be next to seek out love amid the drawing rooms and scandals of Mayfair? Here’s what we know so far.

On May 13, 2026, Netflix confirmed that Bridgerton season 5 will return in 2027.

Yes, Netflix announced on March 24, 2026 that Bridgerton season 5 “is now in production.” The streamer shared the news with photos of the lead couple.

Following the airing of the season 4 finale, Brownell confirmed that season 5 will begin filming “soon.” In an interview published in February 2026, she told Decider, “We want to give fans a moment to really celebrate Yerin and Luke and everything they’ve put into this season, but we are starting production very soon on season 5.”

Ha gave a similar response to ELLE, stating that she doesn’t know when production for season 5 will begin. “I know that they’re writing all the scripts and everything, but I’m so caught up with press that I’ve just been busy,” she said. “It’s one of those things where you want to just completely celebrate season 4 and close that chapter before I fully focus on season 5 stuff.”

Netflix confirmed that season 5 will focus on Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). Hints of their bond were already teased in season 4. The streamer also revealed the official logline:

We also got a few more details about where the two women stand by the time season 5 rolls around. Regarding Francesca, Netflix announced, “Reserved and contained, Francesca has long felt out of place in the world. As Michaela stirs up new feelings inside her, Fran will make discoveries about herself that could change everything.”

And as for her love interest: “Beneath Michaela’s charming and vivacious exterior hides a vulnerable young woman who is quick to run the second she feels discomfort. But this season, Michaela must face her vulnerability head-on as she’s forced to navigate her relationship to her late cousin’s legacy—and to Francesca.”

Francesca’s story first began unfolding in season 3, when she married John Stirling, the Earl of Kilmartin. But a spark immediately ignited between Francesca and John’s cousin, Michaela, a gender-flipped version of Michael Stirling from Julia Quinn’s novel When He Was Wicked. Showrunner Brownell has already confirmed that the shift was intentional, and that Michaela will play a central role in Francesca’s arc going forward.

The show’s season 4 post-credits scene also delivered a potential clue about Francesca and Eloise’s season 5 storylines. While attending Benedict and Sophie’s wedding, Kate asks the women who they think will marry next. “I do love a wedding,” Eloise says, much to the surprise of the other girls. Penelope asks Francesca if she’ll ever marry again after the death of John, and she replies, “I have had my great love. One time is enough.”

Either way, season 5 will contain at least one plot point that completely differs from the Bridgerton books. Season 4 revealed the retirement of Penelope as Lady Whistledown, but a new writer has promptly stepped into her place—so expect either Eloise or Francesca’s love stories to be heavily featured in the pages of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers…perhaps without the same care as Penelope’s quill.

Aside from Hannah Dodd as Francesca Stirling and Masali Baduza as Michaela Stirling, the full season 5 lineup hasn’t been formally revealed, but fans can expect many of the core ensemble to return.

On April 8, Netflix revealed three new additions to the Bridgerton season 5 cast. Tega Alexander (The Sandman) will play Christopher Anderson, “a mysterious bachelor.” Jacqueline Boatswain will star as Helen Stirling, Michaela’s “charming” mother. Gemma Knight Jones (Mobland) will portray Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, “a member of high society who knows more than meets the eye.”

Claudia Jessie (Eloise), Florence Hunt (Hyacinth), and Will Tilston (Gregory) are all still waiting for their turn in the spotlight, and thus they will likely make an appearance.

Supporting actors such as Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton), Julie Andrews (Lady Whistledown’s narration), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), and others could also return, depending on the season’s storyline.

And if recent seasons are any indication, new characters might well be making their debut at court.

“[Queer love stories] have traditionally been excluded from things like period dramas — and queer people did exist, have always existed, and will always exist,” Dodd told Netflix’s Tudum in a May 13 interview. Baduza added, “It’s been really special to have Jess guide us on this journey, because she’s very excited about this story. What we really want to achieve is giving a realistic view of queer love on-screen and [giving them] a happily ever after.”

The leads explained that they’re “super excited” for their character’s love story to play out. Dodd added, “When you spend so much time with a character, you genuinely do want them to be happy. So I am really looking forward to [Francesca] feeling like she deserves love.”

Netflix has not yet confirmed the source material outright, but with Francesca in the lead, the inspiration will likely come from When He Was Wicked, a story of grief, guilt, and love rediscovered after loss. (Season 4 already has adapted elements of When He Was Wicked.)

If Eloise also has some moments in the spotlight, as Brownell previously teased, the plot would draw from To Sir Phillip, With Love, a tale of unexpected companionship that begins with letters and leads to marriage.

In Quinn’s novels, Francesca’s story arrives before Eloise’s. Still, Bridgerton has never been afraid to remix its source material: Season 3 skipped over Benedict’s book, using Romancing Mister Bridgerton as its basis instead, and only revisiting Benedict’s story in season 4. Thus, it’s certainly possible season 5 might incorporate both When He Was Wicked and To Sir Phillip, With Love.

Of season 5, Brownell told Tudum on May 13 that “it feels groundbreaking” to tell a queer love story on Bridgerton. “Obviously, there are a lot of great shows that have depicted queer love. We’re not the first by any means, but to make an entire Bridgerton season about a sapphic relationship feels huge.”

She added, “If there’s anything really specific about this season, it is the yearning. It’s big-time yearning…It’s going to be a season about queer joy. It is not going to be a season about queer trauma. … We’re having so much fun!”

Although specific plot points remain closely guarded, Brownell has indicated that the team is already laying long-term groundwork for future seasons. In multiple interviews, she’s shared her commitment to deepening the ensemble’s stories, expanding the world of Bridgerton while ensuring each character’s arc feels fresh and meaningful.

“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter last year. “And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace. We’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.”

In an interview with Us Weekly, Quinn reflected on future seasons and her excitement to see Eloise’s story.

“I don’t necessarily know how they’re gonna spin it or write it or what they’re going to keep and change. I love [Eloise’s] story,” she shared. “[Sir Phillip has] two kids who she has got to wrangle, which is awesome. The fact that Eloise is going to have an instant family is awesome. His twins are pretty ruthless to her so I hope they keep stuff like that in.”

Quinn also wonders what future seasons might mean for the youngest Bridgertons, Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) and Gregory (Will Tilston), who started out on the show as preteens.

“It’s funny because they were, like, 12 and 13 when they started,” the author said. “If you asked me that back then [about the same actors playing them as adults], I’d be like, ‘I don’t know.’ But when I saw them again at the premiere, they were both drinking wine. They’re both 18 now, and Will was there with his girlfriend.”

She continued, “Jess [Brownell] has said the next two seasons will be either Eloise and then Francesca or Francesca and then Eloise, which makes sense. It takes a few years to film, so by the time we get to Hyacinth and Gregory, the actors are going to be well into their 20s. So I think it’ll probably be okay. Will it be weird that we knew them when they were 12? We see child stars grow up all the time.”
