<em>Euphoria</em> Season 3: What We Know So Far

The fate of Euphoria season 3 was up in the air for what felt like an eternity. The show was technically renewed for a third season way back in February 2022, but with several different factors forcing production to pause multiple times (more on that later), fans were left with one big question: Would Euphoria season 3 ever arrive? The short answer: At long last, yes.

The cast is indeed back in the saddle. In early February 2025, filming on season 3 commenced in Los Angeles, and as of April 2026, Euphoria is officially back on our screens. But there will be plenty to catch up on after a very eventful second season, in which viewers were most memorably left grieving Ashtray (Javon Walton) after he and Fezco (Angus Cloud) were caught in a shootout with a SWAT team. Audiences were also treated to a performance of Lexi’s (Maude Apatow) play, Our Life (cue the line, “Is this fucking play about us?”), which led to Maddy (Alexa Demie) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) brawling onstage.

The finale also raised some huge questions, such as, “Doesn’t Rue (Zendaya) still owe drug dealer Laurie (Martha Kelly) $10,000 for the suitcase full of drugs that she took from her and promised to sell?” That’ll be much harder for Rue to pull off now, considering Jules (Hunter Schafer) and Elliot (Dominic Fike) flushed the drugs down the toilet. (Not to mention that Jules and Rue have had quite the falling out.) We also can’t forget how Nate (Jacob Elordi) called the police on his father, Cal (Eric Dane), who was then arrested!

So, what’s next for the teens of Euphoria High? Here are all of your season 3 questions, answered.

Euphoria will officially return on April 12, 2026.

As previously reported, Euphoria was originally scheduled to return in 2025, Bloys announced during a November 2023 presentation to press, but that didn’t pan out. At a conference in December 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that HBO was now anticipating a 2026 premiere. The report was reaffirmed in February 2025 with the official launch of production.

Fans weren’t exactly thrilled to wait so long for more Euphoria episodes. But after the 2023 Hollywood labor strikes; the tragic deaths of both Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turen; and the star-studded cast and crew’s numerous other projects, Euphoria’s timeline was forced to shift. (In 2024, HBO confirmed to Variety that season 3 had once again been delayed—but that the show would indeed move forward eventually. “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” a spokesperson shared. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”)

Just when fans had started to lose faith in a third season, HBO shared great news: Euphoria would officially begin filming again in 2025, with the main characters set to return. A24, which also produces the series, confirmed on Feb. 10, 2025, that production had indeed launched as planned.

In November 2025, images circulating on X showed what looked like a menu from the season’s wrap party. The cocktail list included a mocktail called @ITSMECASSIE, which some fans took to be a hint about Cassie’s career as an influencer in season 3.

Finally, in January 2026, viewers were at last treated to an official season 3 trailer and offered a release date.

The returning cast includes Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Colman Domingo. Martha Kelly and Chloe Cherry have also been bumped up to series regulars.

Alanna Ubach, Daeg Faerch, Dominic Fike, Melvin Bonez Estes, Nika King, Paula Marshall, Sophia Rose Wilson, and Zak Steiner will also return for season 3.

There will be a huge number of newcomers to the third season, per Deadline, including Grammy winner Rosalía; Gideon Adlon; Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje; Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje; Asante Blackk; Bella Podaras; Bill Bodner; Darrell Britt-Gibson; Colleen Camp; Danielle Deadwyler; Priscilla Delgado; Homer Gere; Kadeem Hardison; James Landry Hébert; Jessica Blair Herman; Marshawn Lynch; Natasha Lyonne; Hemky Madera; Anna Van Patten; Kwame Patterson; Trisha Paytas; Rebecca Pidgeon; Cailyn Rice; Eli Roth; Madison Thompson; Jack Topalian; Sam Trammell; Toby Wallace; and Matthew Willig.

In her September 2025 ELLE cover story, Rosalía said that she enjoyed spending time with her cast members while filming, like Zendaya, Alexa Demie, and her ex, Hunter Schafer. “I have good friends there,” she said. “It feels really nice to be able to find each other.”

In the profile, the show’s writer, director, and producer, Sam Levinson, also spoke about working with Rosalía. “I love unleashing her on a scene,” he said. “I let her play with the words, the emotions, in English and Spanish. I never want to tell her what to do first, because her natural instincts are so fascinating, charismatic, and funny. Every scene we shoot, I’m behind the camera smiling.”

Barbie Ferreira will not return to play Kat. She announced her departure from Euphoria all the way back in August 2022, with a photo of fan art of her character drawn by her co-star, Schafer.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” Ferreira wrote. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”

Austin Abrams, who played Ethan, Kat’s boyfriend, will similarly not return for season 3.

Nor will Storm Reid, who played the younger sister of Zendaya’s Rue. She revealed the news to Rotten Tomatoes at the 2024 Governors Awards, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning for the third season, but I’m so, so indebted to the cast and crew of that show [and] to HBO. Euphoria is a really special thing,” Reid said. Sources also confirmed the news to THR.

After the death of Cloud in July 2023, it remains to be seen how Euphoria season 3 will handle the remaining story arc of Fezco. On Aug. 2, 2023, Apatow—who plays Lexi, Fezco’s love interest—posted a tribute to Cloud on Instagram, writing, “Angus was the funniest person ever. I would get so excited to see on the schedule that we would be working together because I knew we’d have the best day, laughing so hard. He was the sweetest and made everyone around him so happy. He was just the best. Words can’t really capture how magical of a person he was. My heart is broken. Angus, getting to know and work with you was one of the greatest joys and blessings of my life. I will love you forever. ❤️”

The official logline from HBO reads, “A group of childhood friends wrestle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil.”

Per Deadline, season 3 will feature a five-year time jump, removing the characters from their usual high school setting.

As Levinson revealed to ELLE in a September 2023 cover story featuring Zendaya, the director sees Euphoria’s third chapter as a “film noir,” and shared that Rue’s storyline will “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”

Zendaya expressed excitement about the forthcoming time jump. “I think it’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2022. “I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look. But also with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be. What was special about this season was that we got to dive into [the other characters] in a much deeper sense. I think we can do that again with the third season.”

Expect “big swings” in season 3, according to Colman Domingo, who chatted with Deadline in 2022 after his Emmy win for his guest role in season 2. “It’s an organism, and [Levinson] wants it to keep shifting it in many ways and I think he’s going to take some really big swings, actually, with season 3,” the actor said. “He’s someone who, once there’s an expectation of the show, he wants to smash that expectation because he truly is a consummate artist, and he wants to make sure he’s telling some really compelling storytelling. And just because we had some successes before with this season, he said, ‘Let’s not rely on that. Let’s move forward. I’m going to go deeper with these characters. I’m going to really peel away the layers of them and just get to the human heart.’”

One big swing we can expect? A wedding sequence. April 2025 leaks from the season 3 set showcased Sweeney’s Cassie marching down the aisle in a white wedding gown, her feet gliding over a monogram that read “C&N.” What else could that stand for other than “Cassie & Nate”? Sure enough, when the season 3 trailer officially arrived in January 2026, it showcased Cassie and Nate as a couple, with Nate referring to Cassie as “my bride-to-be.”

In May 2025, Sydney Sweeney described the season as “unhinged” in a new interview with Empire.

“I have such a spot in my heart for Cassie, and I hold her really close and dear,” Sweeney explained. “She is crazy. She makes so many mistakes. She’s flawed on so many levels, but she does it all from a place of love. It could be a sad version of love, as well. It’s so much fun to play a character that is as crazy as she is.

Sweeney continued, “Sam [Levinson] is such a brilliant filmmaker to work with, because I’ll read something, then I’ll call him, and I’m like, ‘Let’s go crazier.’ And he’s like, ‘I’m all in.’ And this season is unhinged.”

In an interview with W in June 2025, Domingo elaborated on season 3’s time jump and what it means for his character, Ali. “It’s some years later, and you find our characters in other circumstances,” he said. “We get the treat of actually peeling back a little bit more of the Ali that we’ve come to know. We have to understand how he got there.”

Elordi also gave a brief hint about the season during an Oct. 21, 2025, appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When asked if he could share a teaser from what he knows of his character, he responded, “I think a good phrase, I guess, for my season is ‘white fritillaries.’” He added, “Do with that what you will.” Although that doesn’t say much, it seems that he’s referring to a bell-shaped species of flowers that face downward. Perhaps these will be featured in Nate and Cassie’s wedding, or maybe it’s more of a metaphorical reference—only time will tell.

Finally, Levinson provided further context during HBO Max’s global programming presentation in London on Dec. 3, 2025. Offering a sneak peek into the characters’ lives after the time jump, he said, “Five years felt like a natural place because, if they’d gone to college, they’d be out of college at that time. We basically pick up Rue south of the border in Mexico, in debt to Laurie, trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off.”

He addressed speculations about Sweeney’s character, adding, “And then Cassie is living in the suburbs with Nate, they’re engaged, and she’s very addicted to social media and envious of what appears to be the big lives that all of her high school classmates are living at this point in time.”

Levinson, who said it’s “our best season yet,” then revealed that “Cassie and Nate do, in fact, get married. I’m confirming it. And I promise that it will be an unforgettable night.”

He also shared details about three more characters: Jules will be in art school and “nervous” about her career as a painter; Maddie will be working at a talent agency in Hollywood while pursuing her own “side hustles”; and Lexi will become an assistant to a showrunner, portrayed by guest star Sharon Stone.

We aren’t yet certain if this will be the final season of Euphoria, but it seems likely.

In an interview with Deadline published in February 2025, HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi shared that the Euphoria team had “talked about” ending with season 3. “I don’t think anything is over until it’s over, but it’s been discussed that this is the end,” she said. “I think you will be very satisfied with this season, and how we bring each of the characters’ whole narrative.”

More than a year later, in April 2026, Levinson told The New York Times that he wasn’t sure if Euphoria would return for season 4. “I write every season like it’s the last,” he said. “If inspiration strikes and I have an idea, then I’ll talk to HBO. If it makes sense, it makes sense. But it’s such a long shoot and we put so much into it, from every department—costumes, production design, editorial, cinematography. We just want to get this season right. So if this is it, great. If there’s more…I don’t know.”

During the April 7 premiere of Euphoria season 3 in Los Angeles, Levinson took a moment at the screening to dedicate it to “those who we lost,” which includes stars Cloud and Dane, as well as producer Turen.

“Some people ask why it took so long between seasons 2 and 3,” he said. “There were obvious factors—the strikes, trying to make a schedule work with our very in-demand cast, but the real time was in trying to figure out how to find a way to pay respect to those who we lost.”

He continued, “When Angus died, it was tough. I loved him deeply, and I fought hard to keep him clean. The year he died, in 2023, he was one of 73,000 people in America who died of a fentanyl overdose. I learned a whole lot that year, but what I realized more than anything is that death is what gives life meaning. You can’t be arrogant about existence. You’re forced to reckon with the fact that life itself is a wonder, a gift, a profound blessing.”

He concluded his statement by taking a moment to honor “those who we lost, Angus, Kevin, and Eric.” He added, “The Rebbe [Jewish spiritual leader] says, ‘The only way to see great light is to pass through great darkness.’ Well, it feels good to be on the other side.”

On Nov. 8, 2024, rumors started circulating on X that the show had officially been canceled. An HBO representative told The Wrap that same day that the story was “absolutely false” and that production was still scheduled to begin in 2025.

Yes, in December 2025, HBO released a first look at its 2026 slate. In the teaser clip, we see a few scenes featuring Nate, Cassie, Jules, Maddy, and Rue. At one point, Rue narrates, “A few years after high school, I don’t know if life is exactly what I wished.”

The streamer also unveiled new images from season 3 on Instagram, featuring each of the main characters alongside brief script previews:

Finally, on Jan. 14, 2026, HBO released a full-length trailer for the new season, and it immediately brought us up to speed on what the Euphoria Teens are up to post-graduation.

A second full-length trailer arrived on March 30, 2026. Rue appears to still be in the business of drugs and acts as a mule to a threatening group of individuals. Meanwhile, Cassie walks down the aisle as Nate’s bride; Maddy comes back into the fold to help Cassie with her career; and Jules and Lexi continue their work in the arts.

“In the beginning, we had to make a choice about who we were and what we wanted. But what we didn’t realize is how far we were willing to go,” Rue narrates in the trailer, which slowly descends into madness with each fiery, bloody scene it teases.
