Gracie Abrams and Paul Mescal’s Complete Relationship Timeline
In June 2024, it was rumored that Normal People star Paul Mescal and musician Gracie Abrams were seeing each other after they were spotted out on what looked like a date. By August, they seemed to “confirm” their relationship with a public kiss.
There might not be much more said about it, as Mescal stated in an interview with Vanity Fair that he plans to keep his romantic life “private…moving forward” and that he wants to “drown out” gossip.
“A lot of the time, people are kind about their support for me,” he said. “That’s my predominant experience.”
The conversation came following his split from Phoebe Bridgers in 2022 after two years together. Abrams’s last known relationship with songwriter Blake Slatkin also ended in 2022, after about five years of dating.
As of June 2026, Mescal and Abrams’s relationship is going strong, with Abrams speaking about him in a new interview. Here, their history in full:
Photos of Mescal on what appeared to be a date with Abrams were shared by TMZ in June. The images were taken during the day in London at BRAT restaurant, with eyewitnesses telling the publication that the pair ordered a bunch of small plates to share.
In the images, they appear to be having an intense conversation. At one point, Mescal reached over to touch her face. He was wearing a white T-shirt, and Abrams had on a pale pink blouse.
In mid-August, they were seen in London again, sharing a kiss in Mayfair. Mescal wore a cap and sunglasses to cover his face, as well as shorts and a T-shirt. Abrams was in a white vest and black pants. Later, the two were seen at All Points East music festival in Victoria Park for musician Mitski’s set.
A source told People on August 18, “They’ve been hooking up, and it’s still early stages.”
Mescal and Abrams were photographed holding hands once more in London on September 2. The couple each wore hints of black, Mescal in a Guns n’ Roses T-shirt and Abrams in a black crop top.
Mescal supported Abrams during her Radio City Music Hall performance, attending her show on October 5. A source told People that the couple is “going strong.”
That same day, Mescal was photographed kissing Abrams’s forehead and wrapping an arm around her while they were walking in New York City. Abrams kissed Mescal’s hand in some shots and had an arm around him, too.
When Abrams started opening for Swift’s Eras Tour later in October, Mescal also attended her performance. He was seen at her October 20 performance. On October 21, the couple was photographed together in New York City. Abrams was in a dark long-sleeve top and pants, while Mescal wore a green T-shirt with olive pants.
The actor brought Abrams to the premiere of his movie Gladiator II in Los Angeles, though they did not walk the red carpet together. They were spotted at the after-party in a TikTok shared by the film’s official account.
A source told People a few days later, “Gracie and Paul are the real deal...They’re at the top of their game and always in communication.”
The couple was together in New York in mid-December when Abrams performed during Saturday Night Live. In a clip shared on December 15, they can be seen exiting a car together while holding hands.
Abrams spoke to Cosmopolitan about her love life. While she didn’t speak about Mescal by name, she did speak about the experience of being in a healthy relationship. “What I love about a healthy relationship is that your life doesn’t radically change,” she shared. “You just fit into each other in a way that feels positively challenging and deeply supportive—it’s like a place to land.”
She also spoke about how love feels like “home” to her now. She explained, “My current form of love feels like home no matter where I am. If you’ve ever felt unsafe in a relationship, it’s really evident when you do feel safe in one. Women are fed so many voices when it comes to what love should be or feel like. But in my experience, love feels best when you’re asking yourself: What do you want? What is hot for you? What is sexy to you? Where do you feel safest? There’s literally nothing better than being with somebody where you’re not putting on a performance.”
Generally, she said that she will only date people who make her feel secure. “The bar is very high in my relationships,” she told the outlet. “It’s not appealing to me to not feel settled and seen, so I don’t date people who make me feel like that. I would rather be single for the rest of my life than feel uneasy in a relationship.”
On February 13, they were seen sharing an embrace in London just outside the Noel Coward Theatre, where Mescal was starring in A Streetcar Named Desire.
Abrams supported Mescal at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of The History of Sound by attending the red carpet event. The couple didn’t pose together, opting to keep the focus on Mescal’s work. They did match in black, though:
Abrams played Glastonbury but had a special crowd moment with her boyfriend. The singer posted footage of herself on Mescal’s shoulders, singing along to The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love,” during Olivia Rodrigo’s set.

On July 2, Abrams posted her most intimate shot with Mescal yet on Instagram. The pair appears cuddled up in a selfie. “❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Abrams captioned the carousel containing the pic.
On January 16, Abrams celebrated Mescal’s film Hamnet on her Instagram Stories, posting a tribute to him and his cast.
“I’ve found it nearly impossible to find the words to describe the weight of this film and the way it has remained in my bones since I saw it for the first time, but we are sat in the kitchen right now, and I am looking back on these pictures and got immediately teary, so I’m just going to say that Chloé [Zhao, the film’s director] is singular,” she wrote. “Jessie [Buckley, Mescal’s co-star] is singular. Paul is singular. Thank god for what they made. Go see it and you will be better off.”
She added in a second post with just a photo of Mescal, “Also I love him surprise.”
Abrams posted a tribute to Paul Mescal on his birthday, February 2, which he shares with her close friend. She wrote a message to them, captioning her post, “P❤️ Clemmy❤️ My whole heart!!!!!!!!! I love February 2… Happy birthday❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️I love you both more than words could ever describe. Thank you for making everything better.”
On February 18, Mescal and Abrams were photographed together at a London screening of Man on the Run, Paul McCartney’s upcoming documentary. (Mescal is playing McCartney in the Beatles biopic films.)
For the occasion, Mescal opted for a relaxed layered look, pairing a dark baseball cap with an overcoat and casual sneakers. Abrams wore a long black jacket with matching pants, finishing the look with a soft-pink corsage and a beige cap.
Days later, on February 22, they made their red carpet debut at the 2026 BAFTA Awards. The couple posed in front of the cameras, embracing and sharing a kiss.
Mescal and Abrams kissed again inside the ceremony after Hamnet was announced as the winner of Outstanding British Film. As the audience reacted to the news, the broadcast showed the film’s cast in the crowd, where Mescal turned toward Abrams and kissed her. Mescal stars as William Shakespeare in the project.
Abrams and Mescal stepped out together at the Oscars. Mescal wore a suit with Cartier jewelry, while Abrams opted for a two-piece Chanel bodice and skirt set with Chanel high jewelry.
Abrams shared photos from the night on Instagram, including a mirror selfie of the couple and red carpet shots of them together at the ceremony. She captioned the post, “Love love love @chanelofficial @jenny.shoo.pumps @emilychengmakeup @bobbyeliot @betina_goldstein.”
In her Vogue summer 2026 cover story, Abrams shared a glimpse into her life with Mescal, revealing that she now spends much of her time in London with him.
She also reflected on how their relationship has affected her songwriting, admitting, “I was worried feeling secure and stable was threatening my drive to write music. It freaked me out.”
While she kept her comments generally limited, she did share what it was like spending time with Mescal when he was filming Hamnet in London. “It feels like every day you come home and read the greatest book ever—that’s what it’s like to be in conversation with someone making something like that,” she said.
“The person you love gets to be surrounded by witches,” she added. “It’s magical.”
Abrams appeared to give Mescal a subtle shout-out while out in London on June 22. The singer was photographed riding a Lime bike in a casual summer look that included a graphic T-shirt featuring William Shakespeare and the phrase “Will Power.”
The tee seemed to reference Mescal’s acclaimed role as Shakespeare in Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet.
On the pop star’s new album, Daughter From Hell, Mescal is listed as a co-writer on the song “Imaginary Friend,” per The Cut. The song is about missing someone you used to date or at least talk to regularly.
“I talk to you, you don’t talk back,” Abrams sings on the track. “’Cause you’re a figment of my imagination / Man, I fucking hate it.”
During an interview on Popcast podcast, Abrams hinted at the possible byline, saying she and Mescal were “fucking around” and “trading lines” together.
