Safe Word is a series highlighting the latest trends in the jewelry market, keeping you up to date on all things that sparkle and shine. The glitz of New Year’s Eve and the winter season might have inspired holiday joy for most, but for us, it sparked even more of an obsession with gorgeous, sparkling jewelry. With the new year comes fresh news in the space, starting with sculptural fine jewelry brand Agmes’s 10th anniversary, Van Cleef & Arpels’s new additions to the Zodiaque family, and a brand-new De Beers London flagship in Paris. For the rest of the month, we’ve got you covered on all the jewelry-related happenings worth knowing about.

De Beers London just unveiled its Rue de la Paix boutique—the brand’s largest store globally—in Paris during an eventful couture week, a fitting location given the street’s reputation as the birthplace of expertly handcrafted garments. Alongside a suite of private rooms, the interiors feature considered details, including a wall of kimberlite— the rock in which diamonds are found—and artwork honoring the brand’s roots in Southern Africa.

With the help of ambassador and campaign star Ariana Grande, Swarovski released the new Charming Love collection, just in time for Valentine’s Day shopping. The collection features all new Swarovski charms—dripping hearts, Cupid’s arrows, and love locks—designed to be mixed, matched, stacked, or worn solo. The new collection is now available in Swarovski stores and online.

Van Cleef & Arpels added new pieces to its Zodiaque family, including 12 bracelets that feature zodiac charms and a collection of medallions in white gold. The zodiac has influenced the maison’s designs since the 1950s and now there are even more ways to wear the personalized motif, represented in dual-faced coins illustrating Western zodiac signs and Roman numeral dates. The new pieces are now available to shop worldwide.

New York fine jewelry brand Agmes marks a decade this month, and the celebrations include a new collection: Echo. Introducing an “open heart” motif, the new collection is a nod to the brand’s metal craftsmanship and fluidity. In 2016, designer Morgan Lang wanted to build a brand from recycled precious metals like sterling silver and 14-karat gold, as well as stones such as onyx and freshwater pearls. The brand’s ultra-modern aesthetic lends itself well to the recent obsession with sculptural silver jewelry and pared-down pieces. For Agmes, this ethos is nothing new, but its 10-year anniversary only further highlights the incredible pieces and accessible luxury of the forward-thinking brand.
