Selena Gomez’s Latest Instagram Post Includes a Framed Photo of Her and Taylor Swift That’s Easy to Miss

Selena Gomez offered a closer look at her and Benny Blanco’s date style this morning—but fans also noticed a sweet detail in the background of her Instagram Story. If you zoom in, you can see four framed photos behind Gomez, including a shot of her and Taylor Swift early in their 17-plus-year friendship.

In January 2020, Gomez spoke to WSJ magazine about how she became friends with Swift when they were both dating members of the Jonas Brothers (Gomez with Nick, Swift with Joe) in 2008.

“We clicked instantly and, man, that was my girl,” she recalled, later adding, “We both went through shit at the same time. She taught me a lot about how I should be treated at a young age.”

She added, “There’s so much of my friendship with Taylor that people don’t know about because we don’t necessarily feel the need to post about everything we do. She has showed up for me in ways that I would have never expected. Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family. It’s been proven year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world. We don’t agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything."

Swift attended Gomez’s wedding in September and gave a speech. The Life of a Showgirl singer told Jimmy Fallon during her Tonight Show appearance in October that seeing Gomez get married was emotional for her.

“I got to see her be the most elegant, gorgeous, not only bride, but just vision that I’ve ever seen in my life,” Swift said. “I’ve never seen anything so beautiful as her on her wedding day. And she deserves all this happiness. Benny is—he’s him. He’s so funny. He’s the best.”

Regarding her speech, Swift revealed, “I did do some light teasing about the way that we used to dress in 2008, the year that we met, because you know, we were teenagers and 2008 was quite a year, let me tell you. And so I talked a little about 2008, and I talked about how happy I am for her and just how beautiful it’s been to get to be a part of her life.”
