Senior Malayalam actor Punnapra Appachan died in Alappuzha on Monday. He was 77.

He had been undergoing treatment at the Govt. Medical College Hospital in Alappuzha after he sustained a head injury following a fall. In his acting career spanning over five decades, he had acted in hundreds of films in small but often notable roles.

A native of Punnapra in Alappuzha district, he made his debut in Othenante Makan, produced by Udaya Studio and followed it up with roles in movies that include Anubhavangal Palichakal, Kanyakumari, Angakkuri, Kolilikkam, Visham, Sangham, Mathilukal, Ithiri Neram Othiri Karyam, Aattakkalasham, Asthram, Paavam Krooran, and The King to name a few. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of the veteran actor.

Senior filmmaker Vinayan said in a Facebook post that Appachan had acted along with veterans like Prem Nazir and Sathyan and the new generation of actors. He had also acted in three or four of his movies. He kept alive his passion for acting till his last breath, he said.
