Stone pelting on trains: 1,698 cases registered, 665 arrested between July-Dec 2025

Indian Railways stone pelting cases: Indian Railways has warned against stone pelting incidents on trains, saying that offenders will face strict legal action. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Railways said it has been closely monitoring incidents of stone pelting on trains across various railway zones.

“Such unlawful acts not only endanger the safety of passengers and railway staff but also cause damage to valuable public property,” it said in a statement.

Between July and December 2025, a total of 1,698 cases of stone pelting were registered across the Indian Railways network, resulting in the arrest of 665 persons.

The national transporter said the arrests made in these cases reflect sustained enforcement efforts and a zero-tolerance approach to activities that compromise passenger safety and damage railway property.

“Indian Railways has intensified surveillance measures and increased patrolling in vulnerable sections. These efforts have resulted in swift identification and arrest of offenders, reflecting Indian Railways’ zero-tolerance approach towards acts that compromise passenger safety,” the statement said.

It further reiterated that stone pelting is a serious criminal offence. “Strict legal action will be taken against those involved, including registration of criminal case and arrest under relevant provisions of law. Any individual found indulging in stone pelting or related acts will face severe legal repercussions,” the Ministry of Railways said.

It also appealed to citizens to act as “responsible stakeholders,” extend cooperation to railway authorities and help ensure a safe, secure and uninterrupted travel experience.
