The cultural fascination with the Kennedys continues. Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette revisits one of the most famous romances of the 20th century, tracing the private connection between two people whose relationship unfolded under relentless public scrutiny.
The FX limited series stars Paul Anthony Kelly as Kennedy and Sarah Pidgeon as Bessette, charting their meeting in New York City, whirlwind courtship, high-profile marriage—and the pressures of fame that ultimately strained their bond. Created by Connor Hines, the show marks the first installment in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story anthology and is inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s biography Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.
The series is said to be more of an intimate character study than a conventional historical retelling. Bessette is portrayed not just as a fashion icon or tabloid fixation, but also a fiercely private woman navigating sudden global stardom. “There was a serious love there,” Pidgeon told Variety of the relationship at the center of the show. “That was always what we were searching for.”
Kelly, meanwhile, spoke about the pressure of portraying Kennedy Jr. He explained that immersing himself in archival material helped ground his performance. “Everything’s very well documented,” he told Variety. “So it was easy to just be a sponge and let the algorithm show me everything.”
The series also features Naomi Watts as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, Alessandro Nivola as Calvin Klein, Leila George as Kelly Klein, Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette, and Constance Zimmer as Ann Marie Messina.

The series premiered on Thursday, February 12, with the first three episodes. Each new episode will roll out weekly on Thursdays, airing on FX at 9 P.M. ET/PT and on Hulu at 9 P.M. PT.
