Bengaluru Metro Fares to Rise by 5% from February 9
Starting February 9, 2026, Bengaluru Metro fares will rise by 5% under a new annual revision formula. The hike translates to a small increase of Re 1 to Rs 5 across different zones, with long-distance fares now capped at Rs 95. Discounts for smart card and NCMC users remain in place, while tourist and group passes also see minor adjustments. The move ensures financial sustainability and service reliability as the metro network continues to expand.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced its first annual fare revision, effective February 9, 2026. This adjustment follows the recommendations of the First Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) under the Metro Railways (Operation & Maintenance) Act, 2002.
Annual Fare Updates Replace Steep Hikes
Previously, fare hikes were infrequent but steep — such as the 51.55% increase after a seven-year gap. The new system introduces smaller, annual adjustments to ensure financial sustainability while shielding commuters from sudden shocks.
Transparent Formula for Fare Revision
Under the Annual Automatic Fare Revision Formula, increases are tied to operation and maintenance costs but capped at 5% per year. Despite a 10.20% rise in costs for 2024-25, BMRCL limited this year’s hike to 5%, resulting in a modest increase of Re 1 to Rs 5 across the 96.10 km network.
New Fare Structure Across Zones
-
F1 Zone (short trips): Rs 10 → Rs 11
-
F6 Zone (10–15 km): Rs 60 → Rs 63
-
F10 Zone (longest trips): Rs 90 → Rs 95
Digital payment incentives remain unchanged: 5% discount during peak hours and 10% discount during non-peak hours, Sundays, and holidays for Smart Card and NCMC users.
Impact on Passes and Special Tickets
The 5% hike also applies to tourist and group passes:
-
One-day pass: Rs 263 (Smart Card), Rs 313 (Mobile QR)
-
Five-day pass: Rs 893 (Smart Card), Rs 943 (Mobile QR)
Why the Revision Matters
BMRCL officials stress that these changes are vital to maintain safety, punctuality, and reliability as Bengaluru’s metro network expands. The gradual fare alignment ensures long-term sustainability while keeping services commuter-friendly.
