Delhi approves health scheme with Rs 2 lakh annual cover for construction workers

The Delhi Building Workers Health Scheme was earlier approved by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the Delhi Cabinet, according to a statement issued on Saturday. The scheme will cover emergency treatment, occupational diseases, chronic illnesses, specialised care, maternal healthcare and rehabilitation.

In case of a worksite accident or medical emergency, beneficiaries can also seek treatment at the nearest non-empanelled hospital. Such a hospital will be deemed provisionally empanelled for the duration of the emergency treatment, the statement said.

What Happened

Given the technical and specialised nature of the scheme, it will be implemented through a Project Implementing Agency, which will initially be engaged for three years. The contract may be extended by another year following a performance review, officials said.

• Each beneficiary can avail treatment worth up to ₹2 lakh annually, subject to an overall family limit of ₹10 lakh per year.

• More than 2.7 lakh building and construction workers are currently registered as live members with the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare (DBOCWW) Board, which was established in 2002 to register workers and.

• A dedicated software system will digitally maintain beneficiary records, treatment histories and claims processing, the statement said.

Key Details

The scheme will also provide Mobile Medical Units to transport workers from worksites to empanelled hospitals, facilitate health screenings and raise awareness among beneficiaries.
