The Truth About Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo's Friendship After Wicked: 'They Needed Space'

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are holding space — but this time, the space is being put between them.

We all saw the wildly close friendship form between Ari and Cynthia while they were filming Wicked and Wicked: For Good. These two became INSEPARABLE! On red carpets they were holding hands and protecting each other from chaos, during interviews they were both bursting into tears and caressing each other. They seriously couldn’t stop talking about each other and praising one another’s acting skills and personalities, either.

Come on, what about that infamous emotional interview?

A lot of people thought these two were going to be besties forever! They even joked about being “secretly married”!

But after the Wicked excitement started dying down…  We don’t really see them together anymore. Why? Well this insider has some heartbreaking news for fans of Ari and Cynthia’s bond. They alleged to DailyMail.com on Monday:

“Ariana and Cynthia definitely forged a bond while filming both Wicked and the sequel, but the truth is they never hung out when the cameras weren’t around.”

WHOOMP, THERE IT IS!

We mean, they’re both absolutely amazing actresses… But to fake a bond this close? Do U believe it?

The source continued, alleging a total parting of ways:

“They were never best friends out of the spotlight. Their relationship was purely professional. Right now they’re moving in totally different directions career wise.”

Damn… A second insider is saying it’s not that serious, though. They claim Ariana and Cynthia WERE friends — and are still friends! But the pressure from the press tour and films was so “intense” they needed to take a break:

“They’re not talking as much because they aren’t promoting the film together every day but that’s all. When they were done promoting, they needed space. It was a lot. Intense. Nothing bad but they were together for weeks, so now it’s like, ‘Let’s hang with other friends.’ It’s not something that has been spoken, it has just been organic. It’s not dramatic. It’s still all love.”

So still somewhat of a press move — but not so much of one that they were never friends to begin with. Hmm.
